DEDICATION

Poem by Robert Louis Stevenson

DEDICATION

My first gift and my last, to you
I dedicate this fascide of songs -
The only wealth I have:
Just as they are, to you.

I speak the truth in soberness , and say
I had rather bring a light to your clear eyes,
Had rather hear you praise
This bosom full of songs.

Than that the whole, hard world with one consent,
In one continuous chorus of applause
Poured forth for me and mine
The homage of ripe praise.

I write the finis here against my love,
This is my love's last epitaph and tomb.
Here the road forks, and I
Go my way, far from yours.

REMEMBERING A POEM

There was an excerpt of this poem in our fifth grade reader:

http://www.bartleby.com/104/4.html

And, of course, many years have passed since then, I was happy to find on the internet, the
whole poem, and to read it again.

LOVE

"Love is not about finding the right person, but creating a right relationship.  It's not about how much love you have in the beginning but how much love you build in the end."

POEM

CANIS MAJOR  by Robert Frost

The great over dog
That Heavenly beast
With a star in one eye
Gives a leap in the east.
He dances upright
All the way to the west
And never once drops
On his forefeet to rest
I'm a poor underdog,
But to-night I will bark
With the great overdog
That romps through the dark.

PEOPLE HELPING PEOPLE

"I'VE COME TO BELIEVE THAT EACH OF US HAS A PERSONAL CALLING THAT IS AS UNIQUE AS A FINGER PRINT - AND THAT THE BEST WAY TO SUCCEED IS TO DISCOVER WHAT YOU LOVE AND THEN FIND A WAY TO OFFER IT TO OTHERS IN THE FORM OF SERVICE, WORKING HARD, AND ALSO ALLOWING THE ENERGY OF THE UNIVERSE TO LEAD YOU!"

                                                 -----Oprah winfrey-----

FOUNTAIN OF YOUTH

"There is a FOUNTAIN OF YOUTH:
It is your mind, your  talents, the creativity you bring to your life and the lives of the
people you love.  When you learn to tap this source,  you will truly have defeated age."

DECISIONS

Some quotes just speak to me, right down to my soul!

"You have to decide what your highest priorities are and have the courage - pleasantly, smilingly nonapologetically - to say NO to other things.  And the way to do that is by having a bigger YES burning inside."

FRIENDSHIP

"When we consider the blessings of God--the gifts that add beauty and joy to our lives, that enable us to keep going through stretches of boredom and even suffering--FRIENDSHIP is very near the top."                                    -----Donald W. McDullough-----

"ALL THAT GLISTERS IS NOT GOLD"

"All that glisters is not gold;
Often have you heard that told.
Many a man his life hath sold
But my outside to behold.
Gilded tombs do worms enfold."

from shakespere:  The Merchant of Venice

NOTHING GOLD CAN STAY
            -----ROBERT FROST (1923)-----

Nature's first green is gold,
Her hardest hue to hold.
Her early leaf's a flower;
But only so an hour.
Then leaf subsides to leaf.
So eden sank to grief,
So dawn goes down today.
Nothing gold can stay.

LAUGHTER IS THE BEST MEDICINE

"Shared laughter creates a bond of friendship.   When people laugh together they cease to be young and old, teacher and pupils, worker and boss.  They become a single group of human beings."

DON'T COMPLAIN ABOUT THE RAIN

THE RAIN  by  William Henry Davies

I hear leaves drinking rain;
I hear rich leaves on top
Giving the poor beneath
Drop after drop.
'Tis a sweet noise to hear
These green leaves drinking near.

And when the sun comes out
After this rain shall stop;
A wondrous light will fill
Each dark, round drop;
I hope the sun shines bright;
'Twill be a lovely sight.

LIFE

"I believe that everything happens for a reason, People change so that you can learn to let go, things go wrong so that you appreciate them when they are right, you believe lies so you eventually learn to trust no one but yourself,  and sometimes good things fall apart so better things can fall together."
                                                     -----Marilyn Monroe-----

BE THANKFUL FOR WHAT WE HAVE!

I am so happy that I do not live in a tornado zone.  We, are so lucky here.  We may need to worry about an occasional forrest fire, or not having enough water.  We do not need to worry about everything we have being picked up and blown away!

Always look for the best of what you have!  We do not know,  how good we have it, until disaster strikes!

Do what you can to help those, that are less fortunate than you!

Honor's  Bright Crest."
                     -----Henry Wadsworth Longfellow-----

Cover them over with beautiful flowers,
Deck them with garlands, those brothers of ours,
Lying so silent by night and by day,
Sleeping the years of their manhood away.
Give them the meed they have won in the past;
Give them the honors their future forcast;
Give them the chaplets they won in the strife;
Give  them the laurels they lost with their life.

.....LOVING

CAMOMILE TEA

Outside the sky is light with stars;
There's a hollow roaring from the sea.
And alas!  For the little almond flowers,
The wind is shaking the almond tree.

How little I thought, a year ago,
In the horrible cottage upon the lee
That He and I should be sitting so
And sipping a cup of Camomile tea.

Light as a feather the witches fly,
The horn of the moon is plain to see;
By a firefly under a jonquil flower
A goblin toasts a bumble-bee.

We might be fifty we might be five,
so snug, so compact, so wise are we!
Under the kitchen-table leg
My knee is pressing against his knee.

Our shutters are shut, the fire is low,
The tap is dripping peacefully;
The saucepan shadows on the wall
Are black and round and plain to see.

DECISIONS

"Never cut a tree down in the wintertime.
Never make a negative decision in the low time.
Never make your most important decisions when you are in your worst moods.
Wait.
Be patient.
The storm will pass.
The spring will come."

ABOUT TIME....

APRIL FOOLS DAY!

We all need some humor in our lives.  Today celebrates some of that humor.

The maple syrup's full of ants,
A mouse is creeping on the shelf
Is that a spider on your back?
I ate the whole pie by myself
The kitchen sink just overflowed
A flashflood washed away the school
I threw your blanket in the trash
I never lie----1----
APRIL FOOL!

Fool me twice, shame on me."

PATIENCE

"Patience serves as a protection against wrongs, as clothes do against cold.  For if you put on more clothes as the cold increases, it will have no power to hurt you.
So in like manner you must grow in patience when you meet with great wrongs, and they will be powerless to vex your mind."

FIRST FULL DAY OF SPRING!

A good start, to a new season!

"I like nonsense--It wakes up the brain cells.  Fantasy is a necessary ingredient in living.  It's a way of looking at life through the wrong end of a telesope.....
And that enables you to laugh at all of life's realities."
